New York Establishes First City-Level Office for Digital Assets and Blockchain
New York City has taken a pioneering step in the crypto space with the creation of the Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain. Mayor Eric Adams signed Executive Order 57 on October 14, marking the first such city-level agency in the United States. The office aims to oversee cryptocurrency and blockchain initiatives, positioning New York as a global hub for digital assets.
Moises Rendon, a seasoned digital assets policy expert, will lead the office as its first Executive Director. His immediate focus will be forming an advisory commission of industry leaders to guide the office's strategic direction. Rendon reports directly to Chief Technology Officer Matt Fraser, underscoring the initiative's importance to the city's tech infrastructure.
The MOVE reflects Mayor Adams' commitment to keeping New York at technology's cutting edge. "The age of digital assets is here," Adams stated, emphasizing opportunities for economic growth, talent attraction, and financial inclusion. The office will specialize in responsible digital asset implementation while fostering economic opportunities for New Yorkers.
